Thunderbolts Cricket Club (TBCC)

The Thunderbolts story began on Dec 31, 2007, when two friends (Riaz Raihan and Elvis Vincent) met up at a New Year Party and decided to start a cricket team for corporate professionals. They were joined in Jan 2008 by Atul Gera and the trio (affectionately called ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’) established the Thunderbolts. Riaz is the Captain, Atul is Vice Captain, and Elvis is Chief Talent Officer (CTO).

The Thunderbolts attracted several professionals, many from information technology and financial services, and took form as a team of highly motivated and committed cricket enthusiasts. 2008 was the first year of IPL, and T20 cricket was all the rage. The Thunderbolts played their first T20 tournament in 2008 (the Ramblers T20 Cup), and emerged winners amongst a field of four team! The Thunderbolts defeated a strong Kings XI Punjab team in the Final.

That success propelled them to another major tournament victory in Hamilton in 2009. The mighty Thunderbolts defeated a strong Ghaznavi side twice. After posting 187-8 in 25 overs, the Thunderbolts bowled out Ghaznavi for 166 in a memorable Final to win the SCCC T25 Invitational Championship.

The Thunderbolts went from strength to strength, growing into a formidable side with a reputation for winning matches from any position. While the team has always boasted a potent bowling attack and powerful batting lineup, it is its on-field tactical acumen that sets it apart as a Champion side.

In 2010, the Thunderbolts joined the TCCC League, and made an immediate impact. They won the Tournament in their debut year, and followed it up with Championship wins in 2011 and 2013. The Thunderbolts have been Finalists in the TCCC League for six straight years: 2010 through 2015. Coincidentally, the Thunderbolts played six different teams in the Final! KPMG (2010), ACC (2011), BMCC (2012), ATN (2013), TLJ (2014) and SSCC (2015).

In 2012 the Thunderbolts had an exceptional year, winning a number of Mayoral tournaments across the GTA. The team did a clean sweep of the Brampton Mayor Cup, the Ajax Mayor Cup and the Mississauga Mayor Cup! A unique and significant accomplishment.

In 2013, the Thunderbolts became the Exiom Thunderbolts, with Exiom Technologies coming on as a corporate sponsor. The sponsorship has propelled the team to achieve even more.

Since its inception in 2008, the Thunderbolts have won 16 tournaments and bi-lateral series. The team is stronger than ever and focuses on playing fair and giving all players opportunity. The team’s war cry is “Har Har Mahadev” and it firmly believes that despite all its achievements from the past, its best days lay ahead.
